Allen Families of Elk Run and Morgan County Georgia

Archeological diggins at site of old Elk Run Episcopal Church
The Allen family of Morgan County, Georgia came from Fauquier County, Virginia. It was William Allen who was granted 313 acres on Elk Run, adjoining an earlier land grant. The following notations from Fauquier During the Proprietorship by H. C. Groome, P. 93, 180:
"William Allen for 313 acres on Elk Run adjoining an earlier grant therein. William Hackney and John Allen for 1013 acres upon the head of Town Run and another grant to Hackney for 247 acres... Between the marsh road and the Rappahannock, Benjamin Crum was given tl1e road from the mouth of the Marsh Run to Hedgeman's Quarter, the latter situated between Tin Pot Run and the river."

The Elk Run Episcopal Church was built near Midland, Virginia ca 1750.  It served the community and the families which settled in the region.  There is no doubt but what the Allens were members of this church, perhaps some of its founders.. Today, a great interest in this church and the site is under excavation by local archeologists.  James Allen, a son of John Allen, was born ca 1750 in Elk Run and died in Morgan County, Georgia.  It is his descendants which populated this part of Georgia for many years. His Last Will and Testament in Morgan county named his wife, Lucy and David Boring as executors.

"I lend to my loving wife, Lucy Allen, all tl1e estate I am now in possession of during her widowhood and should she marry, then to come in and take a child's part, and should the negroes which I have sent for in the hands of Nathaniel Allen be recovered to be In the same situation with my other property now in my possession."
