George Walton


Meadow Garden in Augusta
 "Meadow Garden" was the Augusta home of George Walton, the signer. It still stands at 13th and Nelson Streets and was built in 1780 on 200 acres. This is where he died on February 2, 1804. Walton was born 1749 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He served in the Revolutionary War, was Governor, Jurist, Congressman and Senator. He signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 at Tondees Tavern in Savannah. The Walton genealogy is available to members of www.georgiapioneers.com
